Welcome to Harry’s RV-14A Project
Dear friends, my name is Harry and I like to invite you to our RV-14A Project’s website. The purpose of this website is to track our construction progress of Van’s RV-14A aircraft since we have friends spread across the globe who are interested in following our progress. We’ve also created this website to answer some of the questions that continually come up during our discussions about aircraft construction and General Aviation as a whole. Hope this helps our visitors to get general idea about what and why do it. We always like to hear from our visitors and will be glad to have discussions around any of the topics discussed throughout this website. You can always contact us via email. Please visit our Contact Us page to communicate.
We discuss topics like “why we are involved in General Aviation”, “why we decided to build our own aircraft” and “why specifically Van’s RV-14A” in various pages of this website so we are not going to cover them here. You can read about these topics and more in About Us, Why RV-14A, FAQ and throughout the rest of the pages of this site.
What I want to discuss here is the general idea of this project.
Building and aircraft is fun and enjoyable experience. Yes, sometimes it can be frustrating, discouraging but in general it is very enjoyable experience. In addition, the general aviation and aircraft builders’ communities are excellent group of fun loving and helpful people who share the same interests and ideas.
Building and aircraft from a kit is not very difficult. Anyone who has passion and endurance can build an aircraft. The most difficult part of building aircraft is staying focused. This is not a day or a week long project. In average people seem to take about 4-5 years to complete it. But it is not unheard of people taking ten years or longer. This usually happens when people lose the focus and have to come back to it after taking a lengthy break. I don’t blame anyone for this though. Life can through unexpected curveballs and we all need to deal with those. I just want people to think if they have the required patience, endurance and perseverance. As for the technical aspect of the aircraft constructions, if you can use a file, a pair of pliers and a screwdriver you should not have too much trouble. You just need to have a willingness to learn and acquire new skills along the way. The design and instructions are pretty simple to follow and if you enjoy spending time in a garage or in a hanger on an interesting project you should be fine.
If you enjoy making things, and you are a little technical this could be a project of a lifetime.
Here is me with Van’s Aircraft factory built prototype. No, I haven’t built this. I am just a dude posing right next to it.
